Thank you for visiting my Web site!
As a former reading specialist for children with Dyslexia and related disorders, I understand that the most important responsibility of our schools is to teach students to read. Reading is the fundamental skill upon which all formal education depends. Children who do not learn the basics early are unlikely to learn them at all. Any child who doesn’t learn to read early will not easily master other skills and is unlikely to ever flourish in school or beyond.
That’s why I led the fight that made Texas the first state to require the best possible literacy instruction for children. I pushed for phonics-based reading curricula in our schools that assures every student will get the leg up on reading they deserve. In addition, I insisted on more stringent standards for transparency in our policy making and budgetary decisions. I know how to affect positive change in Austin. I’ve done it.
But there is more to do! I’m running for re-election because we must keep striving to raise the standards and insure that Texas public schools are the best they can be. Together we can guarantee a bright future for our children.
Sincerely,
Tincy Miller
State Board of Education Member for District 12
